Study Results: Stressed Drivers Drive Faster
A study by the UK’s Transport Research Laboratory revealed that stressed drivers usually drive faster and have slower reaction times.
They found that stressed drivers actually drive an average of 3 mph (4.82 km/h) faster than calm drivers.
The study also showed that stressed drivers react 4% slower to road conditions… and this combo can of course really put driver’s, passenger’s and pedestrian’s lives at risk!
“A driver's emotional state plays an important role in the ability to drive safely,” says Transport Research Laboratory researcher Dr Nick Reed.
But if you’re too much of a chilled-out driver, don’t get too cosy in your seat…
The same study found that overly relaxed drivers take 10% longer to react to road conditions and cars in front or behind them.
