Seems caravanning isn’t just for daggy retirees anymore. A recent survey revealed six out of 10 Gen Y holiday-makers consider hitching up the caravan to be the latest in uber-cool.
The survey asked 1004 Australians their thoughts on RV holidays, 313 of which were aged between 18 and 34 years.
While half of this age group were yet to actually experience a caravan holiday, 65 per cent said they would consider caravanning around Australia should they have the chance.
Getting to the bottom of why Gen Y are hitting the beaten track with a van in tow, a whopping 63% stated they loved the freedom a caravan holiday can bring, and 47% per cent love the fact you can meet friends down the road.
An RV holiday is also seen as economical, with one in two Gen Y-ers believing a holiday in a caravan is a cheaper option than paying for overseas flights and accommodation.
Jayco Marketing Director Andrew Ryan said RV holidays are a perfect option for Gen Y road trippers who would like to get to see more of Australia.
“More young people are beginning to realise that RVs aren’t just for their retired relatives,” he said.
And as for their preferred destination, think Queensland – with NSW coming in a close second. Canberra was voted the least favorable holiday stop.
