Rejoice! NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gray has ordered that 38 speed cameras across the state be switched off. Apparently, they weren’t doing much to improve road safety. Go figure.
A government-ordered audit identified the 38 most revenue-raising culprits in NSW (i.e. raking in money through fines without actually reducing accidents) and now Mr Gray has given the green light to have them removed.
It certainly is refreshing to see the government being accountable and acting in good faith but let’s hope the removal of these speed cameras doesn’t have the opposite effect of giving reckless drivers the wrong idea...
