2011 Best Employer - Google Australia

24 June 2011

The 2011 Best Employer award goes to Google Australia. Google topped the BRW Best Place to Work survey, with its workplace innovations such as the introduction of 10% personal time to work on your own projects.

The survey asked 207 companies and 55,400 of their employees how much they trusted management, what level of pride they have in what they do and if they enjoy working with their colleagues.

"Google employees said the company recognised their personal and professional worth and cited the sense of community and pride in being associated with the company as an important factor."

The IT sector dominated the list, occupying 20 of the top 50 places as well as the top 5 spots. Search-engine optimisation company E-web Marketing made second, followed by NetApp Australia, Juniper Networks and Atlassian.

The most common characteristics across the top 50 is the high levels of maternity and paternity leave, large referral bonuses and generous training allowances.

Kiandra IT found itself as a finalist yet again this year ranking at 16th. Managing director Cameron Brookes said investing in staff provides solid returns.

“We experienced a 32% increase in turnover from FY09 to FY10 and anticipate an increase of 24% from FY10 to FY11. As a result of this we've increased staff numbers by 38% in the last 12 months, and recently expanded to the west coast,” he said.

“Our focus on staff pays dividends to Kiandra and has resulted in a unique team of happy, passionate and enjoyable professionals who care about the work they do and the results they achieve. Our success is a reflection of the amazing team of people we have, we thank them for their hard work and look forward to their continued contributions.”
